JOIN OUR bOARD

Break Bread is actively recruiting passionate, committed individuals to join our Board of Directors. As we relaunch in 2026, we need strategic thinkers, community connectors, and mission-driven leaders to help guide our organization into a sustainable future.

What We're Looking For: We are seeking board members who bring diverse perspectives, skills, and networks. We're particularly interested in individuals with expertise in:

• Nonprofit governance and leadership
• Finance, accounting, or fund development
• Community organizing and advocacy
• Marketing, communications, or public relations
• Food service, hospitality, or nutrition
• Legal, HR, or operations
• Corporate partnerships and business development

Beyond specific skills, we value board members who:

• Are passionate about addressing food insecurity and social isolation with dignity
• Understand and embrace our values: nourishment, friendship, affirming dignity, and willingness to be inspired
• Can commit time and energy to active board participation
• Reflect the diversity of the community we serve
• Bring lived experience with food insecurity or can center the voices of those we serve

Board Member Responsibilities:

• Attend monthly board meetings (approximately 2 hours)
• Serve on at least one committee (fundraising, programs, governance, etc.)
• Participate in strategic planning and organizational oversight
• Support fundraising through personal giving and community connections
• Act as an ambassador for Break Bread in the community
• Typical time commitment: 4-7 hours per month

Application Process:

• Initial conversation with Executive Director or Board Member
• Completion of board application
• In-person meeting with at least two current board members
• Attend a board meeting as an observer 
• Receive invitation to join (pending board approval) along with  board handbook, bylaws, and onboarding materials for review
